VERTEX GP Racer Choice forged pistons for Yamaha YZ 450 F

The VERTEX GP Racer Choice forged piston is designed as a forged aluminum piston for the Yamaha YZ 450 F (CJ 22), built in 2018. Its racing-specific piston compression and the coordinated shape of the piston crown support an optimized flame front and a higher compression ratio.

Construction and function

The shape and design of the piston crown was tailored to the combustion in the engine. Reinforcements increase the stability of the piston structure and thereby limit the deformation of the piston crown. A surface treatment serves to limit friction.

The piston includes a short, chamfered piston pin with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) treatment and a safety clip with an external nose. This design prevents the clip from rotating at high engine speeds. The very thin GNH piston ring is made of high-strength steel.
