The VERTEX GP Racer Choice forged piston is designed for the KTM 450 SX F from the 2016-2022 model year range. The forged aluminum version is part of the racing piston compression and combines a specifically developed piston crown shape with constructive details for use in performance-oriented engines.

Function and construction

The design of the piston crown supports an improved flame front and is tailored to the maximum allowable compression ratio. Reinforcements stiffen the piston structure and reduce piston crown deformation under full load. The surface treatment serves to reduce friction.

The short piston pin has a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating. A locking ring with a nose on the outside prevents twisting at high speeds. The extra-thin GNH piston ring made of gas nitrided steel supports increased wear resistance.
