VERTEX GP Racer Choice forged pistons for GasGas

The VERTEX GP Racer Choice forged piston was developed for demanding use in motocross. Its design is based on experience from the MX World Championship and combines an optimized piston crown geometry with design details for loaded 4-stroke engines.

Function and construction

The shape of the piston crown supports a favorable flame front and is designed to achieve the maximum permissible compression ratio. Reinforcements stiffen the piston structure and reduce piston crown deformation under full load. The surface treatment is designed to reduce friction.

The design includes a short piston pin and a chamfer with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating. The locking ring with a nose on the outside counteracts twisting at high speeds. The extra-thin GNH piston ring made of gas nitrided steel is designed for increased wear resistance.
