Function and construction

The shape of the piston crown is designed to provide a more favorable flame front and achieve the maximum permissible compression ratio. Reinforcements stiffen the piston structure and reduce piston crown deformation under full load. A surface treatment serves to reduce friction.

The short piston pin has a chamfer with a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating. The locking ring with a nose on the outside is designed to prevent twisting at high speeds. The extra-thin GNH piston ring made of gas nitrided steel supports increased wear resistance.
